FLUSHING BUSINESSES
To ensure that our community member's voices were being heard, Protect Flushing youth interviewed local businesses about their sustainability and experience in Flushing. Below are the interview transcripts from our conversations.
NOLBU FOOD
"What I like about Flushing is that I consider it my hometown. This is where I grew up and where my community is. There are so many different cultures and it's not just the Korean community."

"It has been a struggle for us [during the pandemic]. Paying for rent, wages, supplies, and other bills is always difficult for most small businesses around us but with Covid-19, it's been so much more difficult."

"Being around different cultures allows. you to appreciate and value the people that are different from you. I hope people can see how culturally diverse and unique Flushing is. We feel special to have originated in Flushing"

"We wanted to bring Taiwanese street food culture to New York and serve the community. Flushing is a hub for all the new Asian food, we started at the gateway where a lot of immigrants first land."

"Flushing is a gateway into exploring Asian cuisine because there is a large Chinese and Korean presence. Queens is the most diverse borough in New York, and Flushing represents a lot of the Asian community."

"Many immigrants set up shop in Flushing, and you can get the freshest flavors. Flushing is the epicenter of Asian cuisine. It is like a food Mecca."

" I chose Flushing because it is the first place that many immigrants go to and there are a lot of Northern Chinese folks here, so I feel closer to my hometown. Also, Flushing has so many diverse cuisines and foods from many parts of China, so I chose flushing."

" If possible, I want to bring unique and different things into the flushing community. For example, creating businesses that are in different fields so that more people will come to flushing to make flushing continue to prosper."
